Free healthy relationships programme

DAY is a one-hour weekly course that aims to educate young people about abusive relationships and how to identify what is a healthy relationship.

Led by a fully trained facilitator, the 10-week programme provides a safe space for young people to talk and share experiences. Through watching videos, listening to music, and other interactive methods, the groups explore hurtful behaviours and how to deal with them.

The sessions are suitable for anyone between 14 and 24 years of age and are available at five locations across the borough: Danson Youth Centre, The Link Thamesmead, Sidcup Fire Station, Family Wellbeing Erith and Welling Youth Centre.

Young people wanting to join the groups will need to complete and send a referral form to DAY@bexley.gov.uk

Councillor Sue Gower MBE, Bexley’s Cabinet Member for Communities, said:

“We want our young people in Bexley to know that there is a safe place to get advice and support. Young people can reach out to DAY for themselves, or on behalf of a friend or family member, even if they don’t want to join the group and just want someone to speak to.

“Whether the young person has experienced domestic abuse in the home, in a relationship or has no experience of domestic abuse, anyone aged 14 to 24 can be referred to our healthy relationship programme. There is no referral criteria, meaning that it really is accessible to all. Thank you to the Shield Partnership for funding this invaluable programme.”

The DAY programme is provided by the Bexley Community Safety Partnership (London Borough of Bexley, Metropolitan Police, London Fire and Rescue Authority, London Probation, Bexley Clinical Commissioning Group).

The 10-week programme has been made possible thanks to funding from Bexley S.H.I.E.L.D – a statutory multi-agency partnership of key organisations (London Borough of Bexley’s Children Services, NHS South East London Clinical Commissioning Group, Metropolitan Police South East Basic Command Unit) that collectively hold responsibility for safeguarding children and young people in Bexley.
