Bexley Libraries to offer ‘click and collect’

Bexley’s Libraries will offer ‘click and collect’ services from two locations, starting from Monday 12 April, in line with the government’s roadmap for the return to a more normal life.

Customers will be able to order books online or by telephone and collect them from –

  • Central Library, Bexleyheath
  • Crayford Library

Full details of the service, including its initial operating times, can be found online at https://arena.yourlondonlibrary.net/web/bexley/home

The introduction of ‘click and collect’ services is the first step towards the safe and cautious reopening of Bexley’s libraries.

During the pandemic, library staff have played a vital role in the Council’s fight against Covid-19 in Bexley, developing expertise with mass testing, contact tracing and in other essential roles.

As people start to enjoy the relaxing of the national restrictions, there is uncertainty about how this will affect Covid-19 rates, meaning that libraries will be reopened gradually. This will ensure library staff can play a key role in the Council’s pandemic response for as long as necessary.

A Council spokesman said:

“Our library staff have been local heroes throughout the pandemic and we need to ensure their expertise is available to help us beat Covid in Bexley. Because of this, we are taking a cautious approach to reopening libraries to make sure that, when we do, it will be for good. In the meantime, book lovers can ‘click and collect’ from two of our libraries.

“Don’t forget your library is actually open 24/7 every day of the year. An incredible range of books, magazines and information resources are available online and membership is free.”

Plans will be made to deliver more library services and reopen all Bexley libraries when it is safe to do so. Keep an eye on the Bexley libraries website for future updates.
