Bexley Mencap
We are working closely with Bexley Mencap to provide a Safe Places scheme for people with Learning Disabilities. This will be a temporary safe place where individuals with a learning disability can go if they are in danger or are feeling anxious or distressed. All members carry an ID card with their emergency contact details on them. The stores/shops will have a yellow safe places  sticker in the window allowing the member to identify where help can be found. Shop Assistants will simply phone the member’s emergency contact and provide re-assurance until support arrives. All Shops will be issued with guidelines on how Safe Places works and further training and a video is available from Bexley Mencap.

Safe Places has already been successfully introduced in Erith Riverside Shopping Centre and Bexleyheath Broadway Shopping Centre, with training also provided to Security Guards, as well as in the Borough’s Libraries and resource centres.

If you would like to get involved or require further information please contact the BID Team.
