Bexleyheath businesses have voted YES again for the town centre Business Improvement District.

The vote for a Business Improvement District (BID) for a third successive term means that the BID will continue to generate important extra funds and give businesses a greater say in how the town is managed.

The outcome of the four-week ballot period – which is subject to a challenge period – saw 89 votes cast, a turnout of 39 per cent. In total, 82 per cent voted in favour, representing 66 per cent of the rateable value of votes cast.

“This is brilliant news for Bexleyheath town centre and I congratulate the Bexleyheath BID team and the businesses involved,” said Cllr Cafer Munur, Cabinet Member for Regeneration and Growth. “While Covid-19 has made for very challenging business conditions, with clear impact on our town centres, we need businesses to be successful as society reopens and we Build Back Better. The continuation of the BID in its vital role supporting the town and its businesses is more important than ever”.

Caron Linyard, BID Manager said: “We are delighted that Bexleyheath businesses have voted for another term of the BID. We will now start implementing our business plan, including the continuation of the many business services we already have in place and new initiatives such as more community events, greening of the high street and improved safety initiatives. We will also continue to support businesses as they start to recover from the effects of the pandemic.”

The Bexleyheath BID zone includes the Broadway from the Civic Offices to Lion Road and encompasses all the main retail, leisure and hospitality businesses in the town. Bexleyheath BID will continue to run for a further five years until 2026.
