Stoptober

Stoptober is back to help encourage smokers to join in with the nation’s biggest quit attempt. It starts on 1 October and aims to provide smokers with the support they need to ‘split up’ with smoking.

This year’s campaign targets all smokers, highlighting the benefits of ‘breaking up’ and urging them to rethink their bad relationship with smoking and ‘split up’ this October.

Research shows that smokers who stop smoking for 28 days are 5 times more likely to quit for good.

Councillor Alex Sawyer, Bexley’s Cabinet Member for Communities said:
“COVID-19 has given many of us a wake-up call to get our health back on track. We know that we must wash our hands, wear a face mask and socially distance from others to protect the NHS and keep our community safe and healthy, but we can also protect ourselves by improving our general health.

“Giving up smoking is the best thing a smoker can do for their health and it can
also help save money. There is nothing to be lost by trying to quit, so I would advise every smoker in Bexley to give it a go.”

Smokers in Bexley can get weekly telephone support from their local specialist stop smoking service. If you want to stop smoking or to book a telephone consultation with an expert advisor, contact the Stop Smoking team on 0800 783 2514 or go to www.smokefreebexley.co.uk
