This years annual summer reading challenge

The Silly Squad Summer Reading Challenge 2020 is now open online.

The Reading Agency has developed a new digital challenge that can be accessed anywhere.

The theme this year is Silly Squad, featuring artwork from award-winning children’s author and illustrator Laura Ellen Anderson. Silly Squad celebrates funny books, happiness and laughter.

Children can sign up to the Summer Reading Challenge at www.summerreadingchallenge.org.uk.

The website is free to access and features games, quizzes and downloadable activities to encourage children to read. The Challenge will run until mid-September.

Cabinet Member for Places, Councillor Peter Craske said: “We are working hard to get our libraries open in a safe way for customers and staff in line with the latest guidelines. While they are still closed, and with lots of children still learning at home, the online reading challenge is a great way to continue the annual tradition.

“The Reading Challenge is always really popular in Bexley and I hope just as many young people sign up this year. They’d be ‘silly’ not to!”

Parents, carers and children can use Bexley Library Service to access free eBooks, eAudiobooks and eComics to help complete the Challenge at home.
